Little More Hog Doggin'

I had good hunt this morning (yesterday).  The boar on the left is bigger, both had good teeth.  They probably went 225 and 175 respectively.  I should have gotten better pictures to show their size.  Husky (white bulldog) put some work in today, I let him go 350yds to the 1st boar, and the 2nd boar was in a real jungle. - Andy Wood of Boonsville, Texas

Couple Links...

  • Fossilized alligator head found in the Brazos River along with a good story to go behind it.
  • And the Bluegrass State is now the number one state for Whitetail Deer hunting!
  • Be careful what you bargain for when hunting ghosts...
  • How about an awesome, super advanced, custom rifle made in Austin, Texas and only starting out at $22,000?  The most advanced long distance rifle available on the civilian market - The Smart Rifle
  • And I also just signed another contract for another video for the Outdoor Channel... Just had to add that in here somewhere!

Texas Horse Hunting?

I'm sorry, but this just freaked the hell out of me... I have never in my life heard of Horse Hunting, but this may be the real deal!  And NO, I will not participate in this, but I'm just flabbergasted that this could possibly be a real thing, YES, flabbergasted, I said it!  Who the hell would want to hunt a horse??? Aren't they supposed to taste like S**T?  There is even a history section regarding horse hunting dating back to Henry VIII...

"If you’ve dreamed of big game horse hunting in Texas and are interested in a superior, top quality, exciting and successful horse hunting experience, join Texas Horse Hunt Expeditions,LLC and Master Guide Tom D. Welderman IV on your next horse hunt adventure."

"I’m a guide because I love horse hunting, Texas, the outdoors and because I enjoy sharing these things with other humans who appreciate what horse hunts have to offer."

This has got to be a joke!  Make this part of the Texas Grandslam
and see how it works out with PETA...

EDIT:  It's all fake! I thought everything you read on the Internet is supposed to be real?

Things On My Mind!

  • Still disappointed I didn't bag a turkey this year, but hey, I still have $222 laying here that the 3rd place team hasn't picked up yet!  (They've been trying, but I just can't seem to catch them at the right time)
  • My buddy at Rut Country Taxidermy now has a name going for himself with Dick's Sporting Goods at Alliance Town Center.  They asked him to hang some mounts and he gladly did...but there is going to be one awesome mount going up hopefully in the next couple of weeks that I will be sure to post when it's all ready!
  • Guy hunting public land bagged him a Texas State Record Gator... I'll stick to whitetail!
  • And for all you die hard hunters, it's finally here! A camo colored Texas License Plate!
  • This video was posted on Liberally Lean's blog the other day, but I had to give you guys the option to watch it again.  How nice of him... he saved someone's dinner!
  • I like the Robertson's from the show Duck Dynasty, but I really liked watching there duck hunting DVD's back (12 - 14 years ago) before they were famous.  If you get a chance, watch some of them, they are funny and really show how they hunt - they are crazier on the DVD.
  • My bracelet up at the top was given to me by a buddy who has made quite a few of them!  WWSD... What would Si Do? and on the other side it says "DUCK IT!"

Hunting Off-Season Ideas!

It's the off-season for hunting in my book! I didn't know what I was going to be doing till I got to thinking about duck season... so to keep me busy I have rigged up a couple of things to help make this off-season a little more fun.

I thought I might share a couple, but don't want anyone to think I'm crazy! Or, you might as well lock me up...

OFF-SEASON IDEA #1
The Decoy Cam:  I am really ready for duck season to get here, and I'm really ready to put this GoPro to good use, so I came up with this duck decoy camera mount.  For those of you that duck hunt, know that ducks land into the wind and most of the time, near the last decoy of the bunch, especially if you set your decoys up correctly.
If this works the way I hope it does, I should get some great video of the ducks up close coming in for landing as well as when we pump them with steel shot. It took me quite a while to make this, but only took a razorblade, 2 screws, acrylic caulk, and a propane torch...then woolah! I tested the duck with the camera in a kiddie pool and it works just great... now I have to wait till season!

OFFSEASON IDEA #2
The Dog Cam:  I didn't come up with this idea, but I did want to tell you about this little device since it coincides with IDEA #1.  This is a mount that is going to be attached to the top of my dog when I go duck hunting.  I haven't tested this out yet, but should make for some great dog retrieving shots to go in some of the films we are making.  I still need a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition... I hear it works great in low light conditions and can also show you what is recording on your iPhone while it is recording!

Things On My Mind!

He's not from Texas, cause the old man beside him would have
backhanded him to the next galaxy!
  • Never been on TV before... don't care to be, but was glad the web address was on it!
  • I don't think that show (Marc & Todd's Crazy Clips) has really picked up many viewers.  And I'm not a big fan of the hog in the show doing the talking, but if it works, it works!  EDIT:  Come to find out, the episode that was on at 10:30 pm Tuesday wasn't the right one... but it is still on there because I have it recorded from early Tuesday morning.
  • Still haven't bagged a turkey...not good in my book!
  • Looks like the ranks are going to stay the same for the Turkey Contest... No one else has brought in any more birds to be measured.  I would say congrats to the winners already but there is still a little time left.
  • What are we to do after Turkey Season....?  Maybe fish a little?
  • Here is one great story of an Out-Of-Towner calling the TPWD to find out the regulations for hunting hogs when he comes to Texas... He is shocked, and I am laughing at his amusement!  That's how it's done in Texas!
  • And this may not have anything to do with hunting in Texas, but it always fascinates me when a sea monster comes to shore after a bad storm.  Story and Video Here!
  • I never new there was a Crappie Anglers of Texas Fishing Club with Crappie Tournaments and such... I might try and be member one day!
  • I have never been to Cinnamon Creek Ranch, but their little get together with T-Bone seems like a nice little outing.  I've always been to Timber Ridge Archery here in Decatur, TX... fun place and a pretty good group of guys!

Things On My Mind!

The camera says half moon, the coon says full moon!
  • Did anyone else wake up, go outside, and think to themselves "Ahhh, deer hunting weather"?
  • My buddy at Rut Country Taxidermy just did a little upgrade to his website... not bad!
  •  I like Cameron Hanes motto of "Train Hard, Hunt Easy!" But at the same time, I'm just walking to a bow stand and climbing a tree, I'm not in the mountains walking 12 miles a day trying to kill an elk... I know it would still be hard to get in the stand with a big belly, so at the same time I guess he's right!
  • I went up to my grandfathers deer lease the other day and I have never seen someone get so tickled at shooting turtles! He giggles when he gets one!
  • While we were there I called up a pretty good size coyote, but he never came in fully and also ran into a bull snake in a tree (pic below)!
  • Texas remains on a decline of hunting accidents for 2012... less than 3 per 100,000 hunters.
  • Hog Doggin' was a blast this past Sunday! The guys I went with are going again today, but I can't make it... bummer!  I'm very fortunate to not have poison ivy after the whole "running through the woods after hogs" fiasco started!
  • My dog mount for the GoPro still hasn't made it here yet... I also have a shotgun mount and a chest harness coming that should make for more interesting video!
  • Come on rain... I need my tanks filled in time for duck season!
