Things On My Mind!

  • Guided another hunt for DTK.  The guy had a nice bag of big ducks along with a nice Hooded Merganser he is taking for a wall mount.  (above pic)
  • Got a cool video I've been trying to upload of Matt Kasner of Bridgeport winging a mallard with his bow. Video doesn't seem to want to cooperate!
  • Went goose hunting a while ago.  Didn't kill one goose, but it managed to be one of the best duck hunts I have ever experienced.  I was hunting with my guide buddy in Oklahoma and had 200-300 ducks decoy on us at one time, 10 yards away. It was an amazing sight! The geese were 50 yards behind them and we didn't even give them a chance, the ducks were ours!
  • Hog Contest signups are starting to build up.  I bet there is a better turnout than last year... which also means bigger $$$$ for the winner!
  • Check your deep freeze regularly! Trust me... run and check it now! Not fun!
  • Looks like the women hand the upper hand on the men with the buck harvest this year! What do you have to say for yourself fellas?
  • Pigeons!  I have a buddy who really  likes to shoot pigeons, and it is ridiculous how many he kills in a hunt!
  • Proper way to hold a pistol! Your doing it wrong!
Wes got his limit as well with a limit guided by yours truly!

were no bands on any of them!

Late Season Bucks

Tracey Stephens of Decatur, Texas used another one of her tags
this last Saturday on a nice Central Texas buck with her bow!
They should be running out of wall room any day now!

Carley Jones of Decatur, Texas used up a tag on this guy in
Jacksboro. Very nice deer, especially since it was her first!

Craig's List Ad - Thought It Was Worthy!

AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.

Date: 2011-11-27, 1:43 am. E.S.T.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket.. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.. my girlfriend was happy that I just returned safely from my 2nd tour as a Combat Marine in Afghanistan .. She had just bought me that Kimber Custom Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with crap in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 153 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ..... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). ;In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours, Semper fi,
Alex

Things On My Mind!

  • 2013! I blinked and then 2012 was over.
  • I have made up the flyers for the 2013 Wild Hog Hunting Contest. I'll make sure to post it on here so everyone will know the rules and who to call to sign up (Kory Chapman).  Last year's winners, Mike Overton and Larry Lewis, took home $1850 for a 288 lb. hog.
  • Guided another hunt for DTK over the weekend. They got a great mixed bag: Hooded Merganser, Pintail, Teal, and couple of Mallards. They had a nice hunt! (above pic)
  • Going goose hunting this Saturday across the Oklahoma border... I'm nervous!
  • Had an e-mail a little while ago asking me about Robby Shinn's buck I posted.  The guy asked me for his number to see if it was the same one he shot at with a bow and ducked on him, but managed to take a piece off the top of him.  Same Buck, Small World! (pic below)
  • Today is the last day for employee discount at Cabelas!
  • Crunch time for you deer hunters with a tag left!
  •  I aslo found a really interesting duck hunting website based out of Krum that gives reviews on certain guides as well as all around waterfowl hunting.  Four Curl Nation
You can see the spot on his back where the arrow grazed the heck out of him!

Kill A Crow - Save A Duck

Where their ranges overlap, crows severely impact the annual waterfowl populations. When the hens begin laying, crows break open and eat the eggs. Later they will return and devour the fledglings. In the 40's a biological survey was conducted that really shows the damage crows can cause to the waterfowl in the Canadian "Duck Factory". It was shown that crows in close proximity to duck nesting areas took an average of 110 to 120 eggs or fledglings per crow per year, approximately 20,000,000 ducks. During the same year, sportsman only took 11,000,000 ducks. A common slogan of the time was "Kill a crow, Save a duck". At a time when waterfowl seasons are being dramatically reduced and even canceled, the survival rate of waterfowl at their breeding grounds is paramount. Shooting crows can make a real difference. Crows also take a heavy toll on upland game birds, including direct responsibility for at least 4 1/2 percent nest depredation on ruffed grouse and in California crows have been implicated in the endangerment of the Mojave desert tortoise. They also prey on small mammals such as rabbits and squirrels and have been known to kill prey as large as newborn lambs.

Bridgeport Buck - West Texas Goat

Robby Shinn of Bridgeport shot this nice 10 point the other day.

And on another note...
My little cousin, Raby, shot this goat, sheep, pet, or whatever you want to call it, in West Texas a couple of days ago.  I have no idea what it is called...

Another Big Wise County Buck

Tracey Stephens of Decatur shot this big guy in Wise County. There are a lot of big Wise County bucks being taken this year... And it seems the girls have the upper hand over the boys this year!

Things On My Mind!

  • Wow, what a cold front!
  • My family has scheduled an early Christmas morning get together, just like every year, so everyone could go hunting afterwards.
  • I didn't hunt Christmas Day!
  • You haven't really experienced the holidays until you go to Walmart around noon on Christmas Eve...
  • Whitetail season is almost over... bummer! Seems like it just started up not to long ago!
  • Wise County Hog Contest will be starting soon.  If you are wanting to sign up you can call Kory Chapman (940) 210-9907. $100 per team (2 man). Winner takes 50% of all entery fees!
  • Ponds had an inch of ice on them yesterday morning... didn't make it very easy to get ducks off of them, even with a dog.
  • Cabelas has there Employee Discount Pricing Special going on... hope you got the coupon in the mail!
  • I could sure go for one of those rigs in the picture up there. Actually, I probably just be happy with an ATV of any kind!
  • Love, Peace, and Hair Grease!
