Most Authentic Mascot?

I was looking at Liberally Lean's Blog earlier and saw this post and the first thing that came to my mind was, "Where can I get a musket and a hat like this guy?"  Apparently he's the real deal!

"West Virginia's Mountaineer mascot is in trouble with the university after using the school-issued musket he totes around during games and appearances to shoot and kill a black bear." More of the story here!

This Has Wise County All Over It!

Things On My Mind!

  • What a weekend! Still no rain! NERVOUS!
  • Here's a first: I actually guided 2 duck hunts over the weekend for DTK Waterfowl.  Turned out pretty good! A grandfather took his 2 grandkids out with me on Saturday (top pic), then Sunday I took another group of 2 (bottom pic)!
  • My dog was a little upset, I left him in the truck for the Saturday hunt... you could hear him for miles away! I let him out after the hunt and he did his job very well! I was one happy camper! Sunday's hunt he was making 120 yard or more retrieves in the water; I was very, very, pleased!
  • Still shocked I killed a deer this year!
  • That's my dog in the 2nd picture, too (Echo)!
  • The wife is slowly but surely becoming a doomsday prepper... she wants to load up on as much ammunition, guns, reloading equipment as we can possibly afford. I didn't argue one bit!  She hasn't mentioned a thing about storing up on food, water, etc. Oh Well, we got guns though, woohoo!
  • Shotguns: The Best Felon Killing Home Defense Tool Ever Made
  • Snow...Not rain, but snow! Seriously?  At least the cold front will get the wildlife moving around a bit! Yesterday I didn't wear any insulated clothing while I was guiding the hunt and I was still sweating, today I'm wearing as many layers as possible and still cold!
  • DTK has a Facebook page, I had no idea!
  • The Annual Wise County Hog Contest is coming up soon! I bet some of you guys are excited... All I can say is it starts the day after duck season is over! They flyers will be out pretty quick!
  • I'm done!

Headaches!

Been having headaches a lot lately! They finally X-rayed me to see what it is...

The Unicorn

Shane Funk of Bridgeport (well, he lives elsewhere, but you get the gist) sent this to me he took of his father-in-law in Old Mexico. What a beast, and mythical creature all in one!

Trifecta...???

Kurt Bailey of Bridgeport, Texas
I believe he has made some progress within the last month!
Scored 163

BG: This time the same person shot the deer, coyotes, and bobcat...yes it happens!

Game Warden Field Notes

This is a long Article, so I'm just going to post a couple and give you a link to the rest...

•Lubbock County Game Warden Mallory Brodrick received a call Nov. 20 from a landowner who reported discovering a deer head, a dead chicken, and an altar surrounded by very bright lights were on an adjacent property.
When she arrived at the scene, Warden Brodrick was greeted by the caller and two Lubbock Police Department officers.
Turns out, there was, indeed, an altar with lights, a timer, and lock boxes with cameras inside continually snapping photos of the feast of raw, dead animals.
To Warden Brodrick’s surprise, the white-tailed deer head was tagged with a completed deer tag from a Texas hunting license. But the tag was for a mule deer, not a whitetail.
After Brodrick tracked down and interviewed the hunter named on the deer tag, she discovered the altar was actually an art project by a separate individual who was an art graduate student at Texas Tech University.
A citation was issued along with serious suggestions about posting signage warning “Art in Progress-Do Not Disturb.”

•Comanche County Game Warden Mike Alexander on Nov. 16 stopped a large ATV spotlighting on a county road at 9:00 p.m.
The ATV held six people dressed in camo – the three in the front had loaded rifles between their legs, and one subject in the back was working the spotlight.
There were more guns, ammo, and beer in the back.
None of the subjects had a hunting license, and all said they didn’t think that you needed one just to hunt coyotes.
They also seemed surprised when told that you can’t hunt from a public road and asked if that is a new law.
Multiple cases were filed.

Clay Bramlett of Decatur, Texas

Tyler Chapman of Decatur, Texas
"Scared 17 deer...never again!"

Chase Chapman of Decatur, Texas
"Called him with a mouth call!"

I really am begining to think the Chapmans are
the only ones that hunt in this county!

Big Enough To Post

From an E-mail:
A guy just sold his hunting land, the new owners just took this guy down.  Supposedly going to hit 190's! Not bad for a low fence buck!  I just wish I knew where...

Coyote Vs. Deer (Round 2)

This just recently was e-mailed to me from Tres Poynor, who happened to have this on his game camera he just checked!

"I had 35+ pics of this deal.  I’ve had this 3yr old on camera all year.
He didn’t make it to 4."

These guys weren't bluffing!

New Link To Website

I broke down and got myself a link to the website to make it easier on everyone.  Instead of typing in a long domain name....

Things On My Mind!

  • Bob Costas sure threw out some negativity during the Cowboy's halftime show.  I don't really like his point of view!  Ted Nugent had a couple of nice little Twitter comments to fuel the fire.
  • There was a lot of luck this past week for some hunters...
  • I would take luck over skill any day, but skill never leaves your side.
  • If you haven't noticed, there are plenty of dead deer on the side of the highway, doesn't matter what highway, they're there, just look in the ditch!
  • Duck season starts backfor North Texas this Saturday... I will let my hunting commence!
  • Took my dog Echo back to the vet! He is finally out of the "cone of shame" and ready to let his retrieving commence!
  • Commence - v. com·menced, com·menc·ing, com·menc·es. v.tr. To begin; start. v.intr. To enter upon or have a beginning; start.  I like that word!
  •  Tomorrow will be the final Duck Dynasy Episode of 2012.  But it is going to be an hour long holiday special.  I have no idea when it will start back...
  • My granddad sent me a pretty cool buck fight on YouTube.  Very entertaining!
  • I've thought about putting together a Facebook page for stuff like this, but talked my self out of it.  I rather just go to a solid website and see what all is going on then have to deal with going through all the Facebook nonsense!
  • I'm done!
